Publishing with Wellness Books: how do we work?

Book

Interested in self-publishing with us? Read our step-by-step guide below to find out what happens after you’ve contacted us.

Step 1

Email us to schedule a free consultation. A senior editor will contact you at a convenient time to discuss your book in detail. We will talk about the topic of the book, its working title, what experience you have or research you have carried out, your timescales, and what format your finished book might take.

If you have started writing your book, you can send over a few chapters for us to review. If you would like us to provide you with a free sample proofread, let us know and we will provide feedback on your book chapters.

This usually takes no more than a couple of days, depending on our schedule.

Step 2a

If you are still writing your book, we can offer advice and direct you to the many resources online which support authors. We will keep in contact while you are writing and help to keep you on track.

Step 2b

If you have finished writing your book, we will ask you to send it to us for proofreading or editing. If your writing skills are less than perfect, we will suggest using our editing service, which is a more exhaustive service; our professional proofreading service is lighter touch designed as a final check of your book for small errors and typos before we send it to print.

As the author, you will sign off the printed copy ready for the next stage of the self-publishing process: designing your book.

The proofreading and/or editing process can take approximately 2-3 weeks depending on the length and complexity of your book.

Step 3

After your book is proofread, our designers will start bringing your book to life. This involves typesetting, adding any images you want to include and designing the front cover. Our designers have decades of experience in their trade and will put together a design based on your ideas and the general thrust of the book. We normally send two or three designs for you to choose from.

Step 4

Once you have approved your book, the printing process can start. The files are uploaded to the printer and within approximately 10 days, we will deliver the first copy of your book to you. This is the bound proof copy, which is an exact replica of what your book will look like on somebody’s bookshelf. This is your last chance to make any changes to the book before we print any more copies.

Step 5

At Wellness Books, we offer print management and distribution – so you can leave us to sort out your book’s ISBN (the unique code used by bookshops and libraries to identify your book), register your book on the Nielsen ISBN database and send the relevant copies to the copyright libraries. All commercial books must go through this process in order to be visible to purchasers and bookshops.

Step 6

Now your wellness book is available to the public! We will handle any orders that come in, and ensure that you have enough copies to sell. If you need more books, our offer flexible printing options can save time and money. We offer short-run printing if you want to order just a handful of books or print on demand so you can order the exact number of books that you need. We will talk you through all your options at the appropriate time.

Step 7

The next steps are over to you. As an author, it is your job to spread the word about your book through your friends, family, acquaintances and colleagues. Marketing your book is often overlooked by new writers who are unfamiliar with the process.

We advise you to create your own website if you have not already done so, and to use social media to help promote your book. You can also try writing blogs on the subject and offering advice or even posting excerpts of your book online.

With over 30 years of publishing experience under our belts, we have lots of ideas to help you market your book and we will support you as much as possible; however, it is up to you to build your profile and promote your book.

We are here to assist you throughout the self-publishing process, as we believe that your success is also our success. We have worked with authors who have achieved phenomenal book sales of tens of thousands of books. Could this be you?
